Hershe Group - Refer A Girl To Become a HerShe

Participant Selection

Girls in foster care (ages 13-17) interested in becoming a HerShe must be referred by a social worker or another adult who has an existing relationship with the youth (caregiver, teacher, pastor, attorney, group home administrator, etc.).

Girls who have an interest in participating must then apply and participate in a selection process that includes an in-person group interview session. Referrals are accepted all year long, however, the selection process only occurs in the spring of every year.

Girls are selected through a three-hour interview process. Please make sure that your referral has the location, the time, and transportation to the interview. For extra points, girls should bring their transcripts. Please ask youth to attend ONE of the four group interview sessions listed below. Caregivers may also attend.

Participants must meet the following criteria:

Expressed interest and enthusiasm for the HerShe program.
Make a yearly commitment to HerShe and participate in all activities.
Ability to fully participate in an active camping program.
Maintain at least a 2.0 (C-) GPA and have an interest in learning.
A record of positive behavior in the community and at school.
Leadership potential.
Demonstrated desire to succeed.
An interest in the performing arts – a plus.
